The barn swallows are back, which means spring is right around the corner! The greenhouse has a new roof and is filling with starts. There is still some rain in the forecast, but with enough days like today the ground will be dried out enough to get the tractors in soon (using the new 72 inch spacing), so these little lettuces and other greens can get out there in the real world.

Today we will start to mow down the rye cover crop, which has seemingly grown 2 feet in the last five days. The strawberry plants have also nearly doubled in size and are now throwing out runners like crazy–a sure sign of a healthy vigorous plant.  Despite the late start due to the rains, we have high hopes for the coming season. Before planting cover crops last fall, we spread lime and compost on most of our fields so our soils will be at a great starting place. And in addition to our favorite standbys, we are trialing several new varieties of herbs and vegetables that we are very excited about–Brussel’s sprouts anyone? We are also excited about working more closely with our friends at Groundswell Farm to provide you with their excellent dry-farmed tomatoes, peppers, sweet potatoes and onions.

Welcome to the new farm season! We will be doing weekly deliveries from now until the third week in November. (If you are on a Biweekly B schedule, please note that your deliveries will start next week.) We have given the farm crew much deserved raises and will be raising the price per share from $100 per month to $105 per month. The price change will go into effect on April 1, and any payments you make until that time will be grandfathered at the old price. (This will happen as a credit added to your account based on how many shares you have already paid for.) Full pricing details are below.

We’re looking forward to another year of growing vegetables for you.
